But what about the ARMADILLO?
Many years ago, my good friend and I met for coffee to share life and talk about where we were recognizing God’s love and Holy Spirit in our everyday life. Although we were both busy raising our families we would try to get together ever so often to lift and encourage each other.
On this day, my friend was sharing how she was seeing God answering her small everyday prayers. These were just little things, nothing earth shattering, although I do believe God can and does answer all kinds of prayers- big and small.
Anyway, my friend was sharing her recent conversations with God and His answers to her everyday prayers. She shared how she had been praying for guidance and clarity on a particular matter while driving the previous week. While in prayer, she asked God for confirmation. My friend said something like this, “Ok God, I think I hear you. Can you send a sign, so I know that I am hearing you correctly? I don’t know… maybe an armadillo… yeah, show me an armadillo.” Her armadillo request was completely out of the blue; it literally just popped in her head while she was in conversation with God.
Within 5 min of her request and within a mile from her destination God provided as he so often does.
An armadillo crossed her path in broad daylight!
We smiled at how something so random could be a sign. That day while in prayer, the armadillo provided the confirmation that my friend needed to continue down a path that God was calling her to follow.
I left the coffee shop with a refreshed commitment to my own prayer life.
I had a couple of errands to run after leaving the coffee shop that day. Driving from errand to errand, I continued to reflect on our conversation. Thinking to myself over and over as I drove… “I’m gonna pray like that.” I arrived at a stoplight in Catoosa (still reflecting on our conversation and renewing my commitment to pray with intention) when my nephew popped into my mind out of nowhere. He was in college and we didn’t often see each other, so I was surprised when he popped into my thoughts.
I was at the stoplight by Wendy’s in Catoosa when my nephew invaded my thoughts. My next errand was Catoosa post office. (If you don’t know, the Catoosa post office is a short distance from the light by Wendy’s. Also, that post office is often empty of customers.)
This day was no different. I walked in. There was only one person in line before me. There were 2 clerks working behind the counter this day, usually there was only one. The man in line was in conversation with the 2 clerks when I arrived. I came in just in time to hear the 2 clerks asking the man in front of me if he knew this person or that person from Muskogee. They must have mentioned 3-5 different people that they knew from Muskogee. Each time the man’s response was “No, I don’t know them.”
I felt a nudge to ask (so I did), “Do you know Nathan Oney?” The young man turned to me and said “Yes, I went to high school with him.”
“That’s my nephew” I responded.
Now, what was a young man in his early 20’s from Muskogee doing at a post office in Catoosa? At his particular time… this particular day… while I was there… being asked who he knew by 2 random strangers… from the same town that my nephew grew up in…2 min (if even that) from the very moment my nephew from Muskogee popped into my head…as I was communing with God on how I could sense His presence in my everyday life…while setting my mind to pray more intently…
Yeah?!! Some people call it a coincidence… some people brush it off… some people may not even notice.
But for me- that was my armadillo!
To me it was just like my friend had seen and shared. I believed God was saying, “Yes, come closer, stay in conversation with me, I’m here.”
Since then, my friend and I have shared many ARMADILLOS. God’s beauty and confirmation is truly all around us. We have only to notice- and our prayer is-that we all do!
